Governing boards provide vital leadership to schools. They ensure that schools are well-run by management and that sustainable outcomes are delivered. They act as stewards to ensure a school supports the most promising opportunities for its students. The focus of a school’s governing board is to establish the strategy for the principal and school management so as to provide the best education
possible for every student at the school.
All governing boards of private schools have four core functions:
- Setting strategic direction within the context of a clearly-stated vision and ethos;
- Holding the senior leadership team accountable for the achievement of strategy and running of the
- Overseeing the overall educational performance of the school and suggesting ways for improvement;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school – this includes setting fees, budget oversight, and
achieving financial targets.
These important functions are carried by our following board of governors
Mr. Esref Temel
Mr. Esref gained experience globally in the U.S, Turkey, and U.A.E. He has experience across a variety of disciplines including Financial Modelling, Restructuring, School Improvement, Business Development, Real Estate, and Human Capital Management. He is currently Partner and Managing Director of Bright Capital Investment LLC, Bait Al Barakah Trading LLC, Star International School- Mirdif, Star International School- Al Twar and ETA Star Educational Management Systems. Mr. Esref holds Master’s Degree in Financial Engineering from Stevens Institute of Tech, NJ, USA. He is passionate about health and safety and has a vital role in procuring adequate resources to meet the overall school requirements.
Mr. Ahmed Obaidly
Mr. Ahmed is the co-partner of Star International School, Al Twar 2 and he provides great insights in the financial matters of the School.
Mr. Asger Amir
Mr. Asger Amir is a long-time resident of the UAE. He is a Commerce graduate and has spent 20 years in Air-Traffic Control in Dubai Airport. Currently, he is managing Director of Al Saidan B.M.T., LLC. He brings with him, a wealth of knowledge to the Governor’s board. He is interested in National Agenda, Emirati Enhancement, Moral Education and Social Studies.
Mr. Romain Astruc
Mr. Romain Astruc, French national, is actively involved since 15 years in the education field and started with putting together an education plan in Benin for French nationals and Benin nationals. He is currently partner at MENA LEGAL, a Switzerland based law firm, and manages the Dubai office. He practiced in various fields of law and is registered with the French consulate to assist individuals in distress. He is a civil law specialist and Criminologist and has spent 9 years in the UAE advising Mena Legal’s clients for their UAE, KSA and GCC matters. His particular interest lies in encouraging the Gifted and Talented Students.
Mr. Maher Alkaabi
Mr. Maher is a seasoned banker with 25 years of experience. His areas of expertise vary based on his professional background in Strategy, Human Capital Development, Engineering etc., clubbed with soft skills of being a Multiplier, passionate, self-starter, team builder, innovative etc., Maher holds a postgraduate certificate of FM and banking from AUS and Bachelor degree in Computer Science. He is passionate about Gifted and Talented Students, Curriculum, Assessment, Arabic and Science.
Ms. Ayda Mbaye
Ms.Ayda has been educated in the UAE and she is passionate about student life and imprinting values and a sense of corporate citizenship on the young generation. As a risk and compliance professional, she hopes to add value by providing counsel on risk identification and management as well helping to build stronger compliance controls. As such, she brings in skills of communication, presentation, active listening, team work and negotiation. She is responsible for leadership and management.
Ms. Samina Atif
Ms. Samina has done her Bachelors degree from Pakistan and worked as a head of Customer Service at the renowned IPS. She is very interested in ways of teaching and supporting students with learning difficulties and Islamic Education.
Mr. Wael Al Sayegh
Wael Al-Sayegh is a UAE National and founder of AL AREEN Martial Arts Training LLC and director of Family Martial Arts UAE. He is a graduate of the University of Glasgow and is author to three collections of bilingual poetry books. He is a published author that regular contributes to the local press (Friday Magazine) on his take on life. Through his martial arts academy Wael provides school in Dubai with Anti Bullying and Stranger Danger Workshops as part of his academies community service.
Ms. Agata Hartley
Ms. Agata is an experienced teacher with over 20 years teaching in Leicestershire, England. This is her seventh year at Star, as a literacy coordinator and the member of SLT,her area of interest lies in English Language and Literature.
Ms. Sherin Hegazy
Ms. Sherin has done Bachelors Degree in Commerce and variety of experience in different fields. She is particularly passionate about Arabic Language improvement and Assessment.
