Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking activities, which take place both indoors and outside.

Learn through play

Our EYFS provides a holistic learning environment that supports the development of cognitive, social and language skills. Our well-resourced classrooms inspire children to explore what interests them, which allows for a meaningful context for children to develop skills at their own pace in an enjoyable, safe, and challenging learning environment.

Learning opportunities are provided both in and out of the classroom, especially when the weather is good.

We meet the needs of all our children through:

  • Providing opportunities that build upon and extend children’s knowledge, experiences, and interests to develop their self-esteem and confidence.
  • Quality teaching based on the children’s current interests.
  • Using teaching strategies based on children’s learning needs.
  • Providing a safe and supportive learning environment in which the contribution of all children is valued.
  • Well-resourced, creative classrooms using resources that engage all children.
  • Monitoring children’s progress and taking action to provide support or extension if necessary.
  • Developing strong partnerships with our parents.
