The Primary curriculum is taught through discrete subjects with cross curricular links throughout. The core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and ICT are taught separately, while Geography, History, Music, Art and PSHE are taught thematically within creatively planned topic lessons. This themed approach provides a meaningful context for learning which helps to engage the children and make learning interesting and fun. Throughout all areas of the curriculum, students are challenged to apply their knowledge and understanding in a wide range of contexts. Children are encouraged to think critically, talk openly and express explicitly about their learning. Self reflection is a vital skill in the learning process, which is embedded through the use of self and peer assessment, where students are actively seeking improvement in their own work. The building of self-confidence is central in all of the above and allows pupils to take ownership of their work, solve problems and undertake new tasks and challenges.
