LEARNING AN ADDITIONAL FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Inclusion & Learning Support

Star International School Al Twar prides itself on being an inclusive school. Our school aims to provide all students with the opportunity to achieve their best; academically, emotionally and socially. We welcome children with a range of learning backgrounds, including students of determination, students who are gifted and talented, and students who are English As a Second Language (EAL) learners.

Star Al Twar embraces and promotes inclusive education and has experienced, well qualified Inclusion staff who are trained and equipped in supporting all students regardless of their ability or background.

Star Al Twar actively seeks to recognise and meet the diverse needs of our students, as part of our commitment is to provide a community of learners where parents, teachers and children work together as a team to enable the development of our students’ skills to the best of their abilities and to reach their full potential.

A robust process from identification to intervention is organised and adopted for our students of determination to ensure that provisions are planned upon entry to the classrooms. We provide the highest quality of teaching using a rich variety of resources and technology to encourage our students to develop a greater appreciation and understanding of a wide variety of cultures and traditions, yet still highly value the family school atmosphere in which they will feel accepted, secure and recognised as individuals.

The inclusion Provision

We have created a purposeful room in both the Al Twar and Al Qusais campuses where the inclusion department can support students who may need intervention in a 1:1 or small group setting. We are an inclusive school, therefore, our teachers and inclusion support staff work in collaboration to ensure that all students are included and supported within the classroom environment, unless it is beneficial to their individual development to receive 1:1 intervention support outside of the classroom.

The experienced Learning Support Assistants implement support strategies to develop academic and social skills as well as physical development where needed. Progress towards the student achieving their individual targets is also monitored each term.

The room has a variety of resources which support the LSAs in their strategies and allows the children to develop at their own pace.

The Sensory Room

Our sensory room is a unique offering that few schools in Dubai can offer. This has been created to support the inclusion department with the work they need to do with specific children, but also allows us to develop the wellbeing of all students within the school.  There are textured walls, varied seating choices and lava lamps, and the room will continue to be developed, based on the needs of the students within the school.
