In our British Primary School in Dubai, students aged 5 to 11 build strong foundations in reading, writing, maths and life skills. Understanding values through faith and reflection

Students in public and private schools across the UAE are required to study Arabic, Islamic Studies and Moral, Citizenship and Social Studies (MCSC) in line with the Ministry of Education (MOE) regulations.

  • Arabic: Arabic is compulsory as the official language and a key part of the nation’s culture and identity. Trough it students develop strong reading, writing and speaking skills.
  • Islamic Studies: Students explore Islamic values, teachings and practices, including the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Five Pillars of Islam, strengthening moral and spiritual growth.
  • MCSC: Students learn responsible citizenship, respect for the community and awareness of the UAE’s history and global role

Tracking progress

In our Primary School in Dubai, students are assessed through various methods to monitor progress and ensure they meet key learning objectives. These assessments help identify areas for support or challenge. Key methods include:

  1. GL Assessments: Standardised tests in English, Mathematics and Science (PTE, PTM, PTS) to track academic progress and set improvement targets
  2. NGRT: A reading ability test taken three times a year to assess fluency and comprehension
  3. Formative Assessment: Ongoing feedback through quizzes, discussions and assignments to guide learning
  4. End of Unit Assessments: Evaluations at the end of each unit to assess understanding of key concept
  5. Phonics Screening: Early assessments to ensure a strong foundation in reading by testing phoneme recognition

Transitioning from Primary to Secondary

Students find the transition from Year 6 to Year 7 an exciting time as they move into secondary education.

Students visit the secondary school every Friday to experience specialist Science and ICT lessons. These weekly sessions help them explore the new environment, adapt to different teaching styles and grow confidence in managing diverse subjects. With this preparation, they enter Year 7 feeling excited and ready.

Students are supported by well-trained learning support assistants particularly in Primary.
